After we make sure I know everything about the project, we’ll get down to the prepayment part and sign a contract (if necessary)

04.

When the direction is approved, I’ll create the fully-fledged character designs and send them for your approval

05.

After the final designs are approved, I’ll go on with the rendering and colorization

06.

Finally, I’ll send you the final designs in your desired format, and we’ll close our project

SKETCHING

The work begins with the rendering of several concepts of black and white sketches. At this stage, the most important process occurs, when the forms, style and overall composition will be determined. During the work, I select materials and also create moodboards to determine the direction in which the work will be going. After that, we choose one option and I refine it. You look at the finished result and if everything is in order, you approve it. We move on to the next stage!

COLORING &
RENDERING

At this stage, a clean version of the illustration with all the small details is drawn. Color, shades, hatching and highlights are added. Textures and effects can also be added, depending on where the illustration will be used.

Discussing with the client if the illustration will be used for print, a high-resolution raster or vector format may be necessary. If the illustration will be used for the web or digital media, a lower resolution and smaller file size may be more appropriate. It is important to consider the end use of the illustration and the desired outcome.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

These character development and design services are designed to bring your most creative visions to life. You, as a client, will always be aware of how the process goes. I will work closely with you to understand all your project requirements and create visually stunning illustrations that will exceed your expectations.

I specialize in a wide range of illustration styles, from realistic to cartoonish. So, I can create illustrations for various mediums such as books, comics, websites, and more. Just contact me with the details of your project, and we’ll bring it to life together.

A sketch file – a rough, black-and-white drawing of the character that the artist uses for the development of the character before creating the final version.

One round of revision – which means the client can request one set of changes or adjustments to the final version of the character design before we close the project.

Unfortunately, this offer does not include unlimited character concepts and revisions. As mentioned above, I will create several concepts during the sketching phase, and then you’ll review and choose one version so that I can work on refining it.

Also, when I create the final version of the character, you will get one round of revision, during which you can request to make some changes to the design. After I complete these changes, you will receive the finalized character design, and we will close our project.

  • Information about your company, the description of what it does, its industry, and target audience
  • Any initial draft ideas or sketches of what the character should look like and express
  • Any doodles or designs you have seen that you liked, or any particular shape and color preferences you may have
  • Guidelines or logotype, etc.

On average, I deliver all the components of the package within one – three weeks.

Though, the timeline can change depending on factors like how fast the client gives the feedback or how many concepts and revisions will be needed.

What refers to the payment, after we discuss the project details and sign a contract, the client needs to make a prepayment. The other part of the payment will be made after I deliver the final version of the illustration. Further details regarding the payment will be discussed individually with the client.

I am self-employed and work on a freelance basis. As there are too many factors that can influence the contract, we’ll discuss all the contract and documentation details individually.

Nowadays, characters are needed not only for cartoons and comics but for brands too. You can find characters everywhere: on websites and packaging, in films, in advertising and mailing lists of companies, etc.

However, character design and development is quite a time-consuming and challenging process. Before you jump straight into developing it, you need to first understand for what purpose you want to create a character and what importance it will have to your brand, ad campaign, book, story, etc.

When you know the answers to these questions, you can start creating the story of the character and decide what the character would look like, its personality, and its features. Then you also need to think about how the character expresses their emotions, what their movements look like, and generally how they behave.

All of this information will help you and the designer better understand the character and make it highly tailored to your brand, story, or book.

Characters are needed everywhere: on websites and packaging, in films, advertising and mailing lists of companies. To develop it, you need to know:

  1. Understand why a character is being created
  2. Evaluate the importance of the character
  3. Come up with a character story
  4. Describe what the character looks like
  5. Think over the character of the character
  6. Highlight character features
  7. Understand how a character expresses emotions
  8. Think through the character’s movements

CHARACTER Brief

The starting point of character design is understanding why you need to create a character and what purpose it will serve. It is crucial to have clear answers to these questions, as the characteristics and appearance of the character depend on your goals. Here are the questions you need to answer:

The third and final step is about creating the character's story. To make a character more convincing and realistic, it must have a background story. Like any living creature, it has a past, present, and future. Any detail like nationality, place of residence, profession, or age can help to create a better character. All these features you come up with can be portrayed in the character's appearance. Here are some features that can tell more about your character and shape its personality: the character's role in the story, its personality, gender, age, background, occupation, physical features (height, weight, body shape, etc.), clothing and accessories, hairstyle and hair color, eye color and facial features, posture, movements, and body language.
